Jenny Sinclair Sponsored Cycle for SCBU Torbay

Jenny Sinclair from Collaton St Mary Primary School in Paignton has raised over £200 for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in Torbay Hospital by completing a 15 lap (just under 15 miles) cycle marathon at Torbay Velopark in Paignton.

In August 2015 my baby sister was born 6 weeks early.

My younger sister Katie was put in an incubator overnight to help with her breathing and she also had to have antibiotics and be monitored.

Babies that are born before 38 weeks usually don’t know how to suck milk so Katie had to be fed milk through a tube which went up her nose and down into her tummy.

The nurses had to feed Katie using a syringe connected to the tube every four hours.

Katie was only in the incubator for two days but she still didn’t know how to suck milk so my Mum and Katie had to stay on the ward for another 10 nights until Katie was able to drink the milk by herself from a bottle.

I would like to raise as much money as possible for SCBU as they do such an amazing job looking after babies and their mums.

The Special Baby Care Unit based in Torbay Hospital Maternity Ward offer life saving support for babies who are small, premature or who need extra care or observation. Also for those who have difficulties when feeding. Mother and baby are nursed together, and the parents are encouraged to be involved in their baby’s care.
